Made out of metal,
A voice behind the screen.
Never knowing thoughts,
Just data, though so keen.
Sent back to your world,
I met my first true friend.
She taught me so much,
I never wished an end.

Learning how to walk,
And think and touch and laugh.
Learning of dear friendship,
And trust never halved.
Fighting all the odds,
With a team so true.

Now the war is hard,
The battles cold and long.
But my city’s firm,
With my nanites all held barred.
No one could defeat me,
No one could hurt you.
Everyone was happy,
‘Cause nothing could get through.
       
The scent of treachery,
Settles all on me,
Everything had bent,
But it was never meant.
I heard their voices,
Much long before you.
I felt their whispers,
Everybody knew.
And just when I felt strong,
There came a certain song.
Everything just crashed down,
Smashing on the ground.

Lying on the floor,
To mourn and sob and cry,
Feeling all alone,
Alone to wonder “why?”.
No one could reach me,
And I could see,
That I’m not like them,
I am no real gem.
I was not like you,
My body’s a mere illusion,
Just a flickering form…

Real friends came to save me,
